The facility combines the production of organo-humic fertilizers and soil improvement materials with anaerobic digestion for biogas generation. Organic streams are received and processed before being fed to bioreactors, where they are biologically converted under controlled anaerobic conditions into biogas and digestate.
The produced biogas is utilized in a 999 kW combined heat and power system, generating both electrical and thermal energy. The thermal energy is reused to support the operational needs of the facility, improving the overall efficiency of the process.
The digestate is further managed and recovered as part of the production of soil improvement materials, returning valuable organic matter to the production cycle. By integrating organic waste treatment, renewable energy generation, heat reuse, and material recovery, Bioenergy Megara provides a practical circular economy solution for the sustainable management of organic waste in West Attica.
