Cathodic Protection

CORROSION CONTROL SOLUTIONS

EXTENDING THE SERVICE LIFE
OF CRITICAL ASSETS.

Cathodic Protection (CP) is a proven electrochemical method used to prevent corrosion of metallic structures exposed to soil, water, or aggressive environments.

Corrosion occurs when metals naturally lose electrons and degrade over time; cathodic protection stops this process by supplying external current or connecting a more reactive metal, forcing the structure to act as a cathode and eliminating metal loss. This technique significantly extends the service life of assets, ensures structural integrity, and reduces maintenance costs across critical infrastructure.

Storage Tanks are highly vulnerable to corrosion, especially at the tank bottom where steel is in contact with soil and moisture. Cathodic protection systems, either using sacrificial anodes or impressed current, are applied to protect above ground and underground tanks as well as internal surfaces where required. The implementation of CP minimizes the risk of leakage, environmental contamination, and costly repairs, ensuring long-term safe and reliable operation of fuel, water, and chemical storage facilities.

Underground Pipelines represent one of the most critical applications of cathodic protection due to their continuous exposure to variable soil conditions and corrosion risks. CP systems provide uniform protection along the entire pipeline length, preventing wall loss, leaks, and failures. By combining high-quality coatings with properly designed cathodic protection systems, operators can ensure safe operation, regulatory compliance, and extended asset life in oil & gas, water, and gas transmission networks.

Power Plants rely on cathodic protection to safeguard key infrastructure such as cooling water systems, buried piping networks, and intake structures. These systems are continuously exposed to aggressive environments, including seawater and chemically treated water, which can accelerate corrosion. Cathodic protection improves operational reliability, reduces downtime, and supports efficient plant performance by maintaining the integrity of critical components.

Petrochemical Complexes and Refineries require advanced corrosion control strategies due to the presence of aggressive chemicals, complex piping networks, and high-value assets. Cathodic protection is applied to tank farms, process pipelines, fire water systems, and underground facilities to prevent corrosion-related failures. Its use enhances safety, ensures compliance with international standards, and protects investments in environments where even minor corrosion issues can have significant operational and environmental consequences.

Harbour Ports and Jetties operate in highly corrosive marine environments where steel structures are exposed to seawater, tidal variations, and oxygen-rich conditions. Cathodic protection systems are installed to protect piles, sheet piles, piers, and jetty structures from rapid deterioration. By controlling corrosion in these conditions, CP extends the lifespan of marine infrastructure, ensures structural stability, and reduces maintenance costs in ports, offshore facilities, and coastal installations.
