Cyprus Turns to Desalination for Long-Term Water Security

Cyprus is moving towards almost full coverage of its water supply needs through desalination by 2027, highlighting the critical role of water infrastructure in addressing water scarcity.

The recent visit of Cyprus’ Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Ms. Maria Panayiotou, to the desalination plant at the Port of Limassol confirms the strategic importance of desalination for the country.

SYCHEM is actively contributing to this effort with the delivery of the 12,000 m³/day desalination plant in Kissonerga, Paphos in 2025, and the 10,000 m³/day desalination plant at the Port of Limassol in 2026. Both projects were completed under fast-track conditions in less than six months, supporting immediate water supply needs and long-term water resilience in Cyprus.
